Post Officers for 2014 - 2015:
Following Commander Brown’s recognition of John Arant as Legionnaire of the Year, Geoff Toman, Sr Vice Commander, District 9 took the podium and announced several awards that Post 307 won for the 2013—2014 Legion year.
Outstanding Post Award Runner-Up - The criteria for this award is based on the Consolidated Post Report. Some of our projects that enabled us to be recognized for this award include:
1. Blood Drive— We donated 31 pints of blood. That’s not much but the Red Cross says one pint of blood will save 3 lives.
2. We sponsored 16 boys to the Boys State Program this year.
3. We sponsored an Oratorical Contest.
4. We partnered with the Marine Corps ROTC unit at North Forsyth High School and donated $1,000.
5. Thanks to our Public Relations officer, John Arant, we had 12 articles published this year.
6. We have a post newsletter, website, and are listed on Facebook for the first time.
7. We lost 17 Legionnaires, 1Auxiliary this year. Don Crocker, Veterans Alliance 161 burials/year
8. We are the chartering organization for Cub Pack 8307 and continue to support them
9. We volunteered over 200 hours as poll workers during election days
10. We maintain a portion of the road on Buford Dam Road keeping trash picked up semimonthly. Chairman of the Roadside Cleanup committee, Kevin Smith article.

Geoff Toman asked the following to stand and be recognized: Dennis Brown, Phyllis Singleton, Bobby Corbin, Pauline McKinny, Ed Miller, Lucille Nuber, Charlie Weaver, Bill Surls, John Arant, Nona Hamilton, Nick Youdell, Geoff Toman, Steve Ratcliffe. He said, “All these people have contributed to our Post newsletter this year, either writing an article, taking photographs, assembling it, editing it, or publishing it.”
Major advertisers include: Ingram Funeral Home, Chick Fil A, Wells Fargo Bank, State Farm Insurance, H&R Block, GA 400 Storage, Herbert Automotive, Donut Depot, Links Home Repair, Walmart, Shaklee Products, etc. Please, when you patronize these vendors, "Thank them" for supporting American Legion Post 307. Congratulations to all.
Geoff Toman further stated, “The Newsletter is now Electronic. The last 2 printed commercially cost us $1,400 each, so we are saving over $5,000 per year by doing the newsletter on line. We need everyone’s email address. Tell the new Commander or Adjutant what your email address is. They will add you to the email directory and you will get all newsletters and occasional emails for the Post.”
Geoff then announced that the Post 307 website won Best in the Department of Georgia for the 2nd year in a row and congratulated Steve Ratcliffe for this honor. Credit for this achievement also belongs to many people who have provided photos, particularly Pauline McKinny and Nona Hamilton, and Geoff Toman, as well as John Arant for providing newspaper articles to post on the website and in the Post History.

On August 22-28, The American Legion National Convention was held this year in Charlotte, NC. Those in attendance included Department of Georgia Junior Vice Commander Mac McKinny, District 9 Senior Vice Commander Geoff Toman, and Auxiliary members, 1st Vice President Pauline McKinny and Bobbie Toman.
At the convention, Geoff Toman, Editor of the Post 307 newsletter, accepted the Al Weinburg Award in Category 3-B for Runner-up in the Best Newsletter competition. Congratulations to Post 307 members who have contributed to the printing of our Award Winning Newsletter.

Boys’ and Girls’ State Attendees Report.
On September 8th, at the Monthly General Membership Meeting, the members of the 2014 class who attended Boys’ State and Girls’ State gave presentations to the membership. The training took place at Riverside Military Academy starting June 15th and was a week long. The high school seniors eloquently described the value they received as a result of this experience and expressed their appreciation to Post 307 for selecting them and sponsoring them to attend this wonderful event.
