LEGION RIDERS CHAPTER NOW ACTIVE!
Post 307 welcomes the Legion Riders Chapter! Formed in September and led by Ranger Bill Burgess, in addition to their almost weekly rides in support of veterans and charities, this fine group immediately got actively involved in assisting with Post fundraisers like the Parking Lot Fund Raiser during the County Fair in Cumming, a boot drive, and Poppy Day. We’re thrilled to have this very visible, dedicated group of veterans and their spouses in our Post.

TRAIL TO THE EAGLE
On a warm muggy day, Sept 13, 2014, six American Legion Riders from Chapter 127 Buford (two of which are already Cumming 307 Legionnaires) rode in the first-ever Cumming Post 307 Support Ride at the request of 307 Legion Member and Assistant Commander for the Boy Scouts Etowah District, Cam Sutherland, Sr. Staging at the Hardy's in Cumming, along with ten other motorcyclists, rode the "Trail Ride to Eagle" in support of Boy Scout Troop 62. The Ride was sponsored to raise money to send one or two Boys to the 2015 International Jamboree which is being held in Japan this year. It was a great ride up GA 400, then two lane through Cleveland, Clarkesville and Toccoa, across Lake Hartwell into South Carolina then north on US 76 in Westminster and back into Georgia, to the Boy Scout Camp at Rainey Mountain. A great BBQ lunch was served followed by several rounds of Skeet, shooting clay pigeons on the Boy Scout Range. Several Riders tried their hand and we learned that "the Hawk", a Veteran Vietnam/Cambodian Recon Marine, had not lost his touch scoring a perfect match. The Ride home was on our own and we made good time even with riding through several rain showers at a total mileage of just over 220 miles. Thank you to all that participated today. This will be the first of many for our new Home. Live/Ride Proud. Ranger Bill

MCPO JAMES WALLACE Jr., US Navy
On a nearly perfect Friday (09/19/14) weather wise we laid to rest Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) James Wallace Jr. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton GA. Chief Wallace a Bronze Star Recipient, Vietnam Veteran and Plank Owner of Seal Team 2 served our Great Nation for over 20 years. Twenty seven Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders stood in an Honor Flagline during this Full Military Honors Ceremony. The US Navy Honors Team led by a Full Lieutenant (O-3) Chaplin began with the Lords Prayer followed by a Eulogy, then the US Army Honors Team conducted the Rifle Salute, A US Navy LCDR (O-4) rendered Taps and a First Class PO (E-6) and Chief PO (E-7) folded the Flag which was presented to his Next of Kin (Wife) by the Chaplain. The Ceremony was witnessed by forty-eight members of Family and Friends. It was mentioned during the Eulogy that James had obtained the Rank of Warrant Officer (WO-1) before his retirement so after the service I questioned the US Navy Honors Team why he was interred as a MCPO and not a WO-1. Their reply was "Once a Chief, Always a Chief". Rest in Peace Chief, Fair Wind and Following Seas. The American Legion was represented today by Post 111 Dallas (1) and Cumming 307 (4). DAV RIDE FOR OUR VETERANS
On Saturday, Sept 27th, the weather was cool and cloudy but the atmosphere was extraordinary for the annual Ride for Our Veterans sponsored by the Gainesville/Hall Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17. Twenty Eight motorcycles including local celebrity Lyttle Jimmy as a passenger staged at Frazier's Harley Davidson in Buford, GA this morning to raise funds and awareness for the DAV by riding around Lake Sidney Lanier with termination at Longwood Park in Gainesville for a Ceremony of Honor, a picnic lunch, music and camaraderie. The Marine Corps League of Gainesville performed the Presenting of Colors and in conjunction with the DAV an Honor Ceremony for US Navy World War II Veteran Robert Carter. We also had the opportunity to talk once again to Disabled USMC Hometown Hero Veteran Shawn Adams who continues to recuperate from the wounds he received while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Thank you to all that came out today to support DAV Chapter 17 in their efforts that, by the way, donated over $44,000 to local Veterans in need this last year in the five county area they represent.
This endeavor included representation of American Legion Posts 233 Loganville, 306 Oakwood, 7 Gainesville, 328 Flowery Branch, 127 Buford, 251 Duluth and 307 Cumming. DAV -"Fulfilling Our Promises to the Men and Women Who Served".

CW3 MATTHEW WALLACE, US ARMY
Monday, October 20th, 2014 was one of those picture perfect days, weather wise. This afternoon at Shelter #1 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA twenty three Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders stood in an Honor Flagline for Chief Warrant Officer 3 Matthew Wallace, during this full Military Honors Ceremony. Matthew, at the young age of 51, lost his life doing what he loved best, flying, in a tragic accident inspecting Power Lines in Alabama. Chief Wallace a 21 year Army Veteran flew Rescue Helicopter Missions during three Operations, the First Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and flew for WSB News and Rescue Air One as a Civilian Pilot. The US Army Honors Team performed both the folding and presentation of the Flag to his Wife, Martha Lee Wallace, and rendered taps to a small audience of 18 members of Family and Friends. Prayers were carried out by a close friend and neighbor and a family Member delivered an emotional and very personal benediction, citing Matthew's "Love of Life and Dedication to God and Country". Young Gracie once again presented the PGR Memento in a poignant manner, which always touches my heart. RIP Matthew, your continued Service will never be forgotten. Thank you to those that participated today: The Patriot Guard Riders, lead by RCIC Red "K", and American Legion Riders from both the Jasper 149 and Cumming 307 Chapters. FYI - We were the 12th and final Funeral at GNC today; there had been one every half hour throughout the day. Live/Ride Proud. Ranger Bill

MILITARY WARRIORS ALL-STAR SOFTBALL CLASSIC

Twenty three Patriot Guard and American legion Riders Staged in the area and then Rode together into the tunnel at Gwinnet's Cool Ray Field Home of the Gwinnett Braves, Atlanta's Farm Team. BOOT DRIVE
On November 1st, The Riders of Cumming Chapter 307 held their first ever Boot Drive Mission today at the Cumming Wal-Mart parking lot. This Mission is a Post Mission and the Legion and Auxiliary will be participating in future Missions; but, today the Riders wanted to test out the process and see what we could learn. What we learned besides procedures was that this as a very profitable Mission in more ways than one. Our Visibility in the Community was worth the Mission alone. A good number of citizens were made aware of local presence with several stating that they would check the Post out at our next Post meeting. This Group of ten Riders enjoyed working together and our common feeling of camaraderie was made even stronger between us today in sharing this successful endeavor. Oh and by the way we stood this Mission from 1100 to 1400 and made $767.75 in just three hours. As I stated, this is a Post Mission, so at our next Post Meeting the Chapter will be proud to share the wealth and will present a check(s) to our Legion and Auxiliary for $255.91 each. After the Mission was complete the Riders went to the local IHOP for lunch, counted our funds and reveled in our accomplishment. My sincere thanks to VW, LTD, Larry, Gunner, Kerry, Brian, The Hawk, Spydergirl, and Killer Bee for their participation and dedication to duty.
By the way, the picture I used for today's Mission is a note that I found on my Bike when we came out of IHOP, written on the back side of a Regions Bank deposit envelope. Live/Ride Proud. Ranger Bill

LT COL EDWARD SULLIVAN, US AIR FORCE, Ret.
On a cloudy and cool Wednesday (11/05/14) we stood in Honor for a great American Patriot. Lieutenant Colonel Edward Sullivan had served as a Pilot of a large variety of combat aircraft during the Korean War, The Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam.
Fifteen Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders first stood in an Honor Flagline outside of the Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, GA. before a Memorial Mass which ended I thought rather strangely with the Choir assisted by an Organ singing a Hymn well known to me; The Navy Hymn. We then assembled in an interior courtyard within the Church to again Stand and Honor the Colonel during a Full Military Honors Ceremony conducted by a US Air Force Honors Team. As the very essence of an After Action Report is to reconstruct events to see what could have been done better I will have to comment on this Honors Team performance. The Members looked sharp and rendered the Rifle Salute, Taps and Presenting of the Flag to the Next of Kin in a Professional and Respectful Manner but did an absolute horrendous effort in the folding of our National Symbol. After the Ceremony the majority of the PGR departed but myself and one other Legion Rider stayed to break bread with the Family as invited. I usually do this when the invitation is extended not for a free meal but because it gives the attendees and Family the opportunity to approach to converse and ask questions of us which is always a beneficial experience for both parties. Rest in Peace Colonel Sullivan you have now joined the Squadron of the Lord's Pilots. Thank you to all my PGR Sisters and Brothers led by PGR RCIC Darryl Gumz and my fellow Chapter 307 American Legion Riders who participated today. Live/Ride Proud. Ranger Bill

At the General Membership Meeting on November 10th, the following made presentations:
Ashley Anderson represented the SAFFT, providing a safe place for Foster Kids and victims of Domestic Violence, that services the Cumming and Dawsonville, GA areas. This will be one of the two organizations supported with toys donated at the Holiday Party.
Founder of “Georgia 4 Change”, Remington Youngblood, a 13 year old student, shared their activities to deliver over 100,000 new and gently-used books and “Wish List” items to active military and Veterans. Members are invited to donate and to view their website (www.change4georgia.org).
Evan Profeta of State Farm Insurance announced a program for all Post members to earn $25 for the Post if any non-State Farm member allows Profeta’s company to provide an estimate for insurance services.
Elizabeth Mitchell, Ingram Funeral home Estate Planning, provided valuable information on Veteran rights to a military-honors funeral for the Veteran, rights of the spouse’s remains to be placed in a National Cemetery, and passed out booklets to prepare important materials in case of a Veteran’s death. Ingram’s owner Jack Allen followed with the need for estate and funeral planning, and encouraged attendees to have an “In Case of My Death” document, Power of Attorney, and Medical/Healthcare Directive prepared in advance for the benefit of the departed family.
SSgt John (Dale) Archer, GA National Guard, presented a detailed Annual Safety Meeting presentation that included facility physical policies and procedures, government regulations regarding firearms and materials authorized in the building, and other important information applicable to Legion members visiting the Georgia Army National Guard Readiness Center. Note: In accordance with safety policies, the front doors of the building will be locked at the commencement of Post meetings; visitors will have a cell phone contact (probably the Sgt at Arms) in order to enter the building once the doors have been locked.
