Post 307 Celebrated the American Legion Anniversary:
At the monthly General Membership Meeting on March 10, 2014, Post 307’s fantastic Auxiliary provided a beautiful cake, in celebration of the 95th Anniversary of the American Legion. Post 307 Supports NFHS Jr ROTC Rifle Team
On April 29th, Bill Surls and other members of Cumming Post 307 attended the annual awards banquet for the Junior ROTC Rifle Team at North Forsyth High School. During the ceremony, Bill presented a “Rookie of the Year” plaque to Cadet Emily Strube of the Varsity Rifle Team.
On May 1st, Post 307 members attended the Change of Command Ceremony on the football field at North Forsyth High School. At that ceremony, the Post presented the American Legion Medal/Ribbon combos and Legion Award Certificates. Winners were: Military Excellence: Cadet Ryan A. Batten; Scholastic Excellence: Cadet Avery N Babykin.
During the Change of Command Ceremony, Post 307 also presented Gunnery Sergeant Jack Snook, rifle team coach, with a check for $1,000 in support of the Varsity Rifle Team and the general marksmanship training for the entire NFHS Corps of Cadets.

70th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion Celebrated
At the June 6th, 2014 General Membership Meeting, which focused on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, Commander Brown introduced Ron Meier, West Point Graduate, Viet Nam Veteran, and Post 307 member. Ron gave a detailed and informative overview of the D-Day invasion based on his visit to Normandy. He had maps, pictures, and personal anecdotes regarding what all the soldiers from the nations participating had to go through that day. He also gave some insight into other actions that his father was part of during WWII.

Kevin D. Smith Honored
Congratulations to Post 307 member Kevin D. Smith who has been honored as the Adopt-A-Stream Trainer in the State of Georgia by the watershed protection branch of the Environmental Protection Division. There was an article in Forsyth County News on the front page (almost the entire page) of Section C - "Forsyth Life". We are so proud of Kevin. He is an excellent example to the youth of our community and a great citizen of Forsyth County.

Randy McGhee Motivates Students
On June 20, 2014 at the Ducktown Masonic Lodge, Post 307 Commander-Elect Randy McGhee presented American Legion coins to two high school graduates and the lodge gave them each $1,000 scholarships to attend college. Megan Chadwick will attend Army Basic Training and AIT, where she will become a Medic. Then she will return to attend North Georgia College ROTC to become an Army officer. Chris Cooper is going to Georgia Tech in the Fall and joining the Navy after college.
